Château Monbousquet is another Saint-Émilion estate with a long history in the appellation, traceable back to 1540. When Gerard Perse purchased the property in 1993, there was a major leap forward in quality. This was the first winery that Perse acquired, and he immediately set about renovating the estate, building an entirely new cellar.
The 32-hectare vineyard is planted in 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, with an average vine age of 40 years. The terroir of sand, clay and gravel soils is not the greatest in Saint-Émilion, however Perse gets the most out of it by starting with low yields. Monbousquet also produce a Bordeaux Blanc, and have planted a mix of 66% Sauvignon Blanc and 37% Sauvignon Gris. Perse's commitment to quality has seen this estate steadily emerge as a star of the appellation.
